At some point, you’ll realize how dingy your bathroom mirror is. To remedy that, you’ll do your best to clean the glass; however, it may look anything but an improvement.
Don’t get frustrated! We’ll show you different methods for cleaning your bathroom mirror—but stop right there; you don’t need to go to the store! These three methods don’t need windex, and they use all-natural glass cleaners instead.
Method #1: Rubbing alcohol
Some hard residue will be tougher to deal with, so you might need to take the time to wipe down to the last spot of hard toothpaste or hairspray stain. This method is pretty straightforward; you’ll only need rubbing alcohol and cotton balls or pads:
- Dip a cotton ball or pad in the rubbing alcohol.
- Apply directly to scuff marks, stains, and fingerprints. Scrub thoroughly until the stains are gone.
- Finish up with a quick swipe using a damp microfiber cloth.
Method #2: Vinegar and water
If your glass seems foggy and blurry, you need something to take care of those layers of residue. Besides its use in the kitchen, white vinegar is a nifty sanitizer and a powerful acid. Don’t worry; it’s pretty safe, especially when you add water.
For this mix, you’ll need an empty spray bottle, warm water, and white vinegar:
- Pour equal parts vinegar and water into the spray bottle. If the smell is still strong, you can lower the amount of vinegar to a 1:9 ratio of vinegar/water.
- Shake the bottle well.
- To apply, spray a light mist over the glass surface.
- Wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth and let dry.
Method #3: DIY glass cleaner
The following recipe is an excellent alternative if you can’t stand the vinegar smell during the cleaning. It might seem odd at first, but cornstarch gives this solution a texture perfect for scrubbing and breaking down residue from your mirrors.
You’ll need ½ cup of rubbing alcohol, ½ cup of water, 2 tbsp of cornstarch, 10 drops of citrus essential oil (lemon or orange), and a spray bottle.
- In a bowl, stir the alcohol, water, and cornstarch mix first, getting rid of big lumps.
- Add the essential oils and mix one more time.
- Pour the contents into the spray bottle.
- Spray and wipe.
Note: Always shake the bottle well before each use; you’ll avoid thick lumps clogging the nozzle.
Avoid streaks and wipe your mirrors the right way:
- Spray your solution over the whole surface in a gentle mist.
- Form very narrow “S” patterns as you wipe from top to bottom.
- Step back and look at the mirror from different angles when you think you’re done. If you see a couple of streaks and fingerprints, don’t worry, you don’t have to repeat the whole wiping process. Paper towels and alcohol come in handy to buff these areas.
- Recheck the mirror and repeat the previous step until there are no marks.
